Riverside Knitting Guild Riverside, CA |
We make and collect afghans and quilts to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children. Who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need You can donate a handmade item anytime. There is no one pattern or color has been requested, although acrylic yarn is required because it is so durable and easily laundered. Any donations of yarn or material are gratefully accepted. |
We have members who coordinate charity knitting for babies born in our local hospitals, Chemo Hats, for a Russian Orphanage, and U.S. military men and women. |
We start with a home-made or purchased stuffed animal or doll. Then we knit, crochet, sew or? clothing or decoration for the animal or doll. These are given to children in a crisis situation where there is police intervention so that a child has a comforting item. Last year we gave over 140 of these items to the Corona Police Department. |

Those who wish to participate are given 2 balls of yarn. (1 each of two different colors). They are then allowed to add no more than one skein of a color of their choice. At the June Saturday meeting all submissions are brought to the meeting. We have a contest and then auction off the items. |

Two Ball Challenge (More fun than fundraiser) |

Auction |
The first Saturday in May (April this year) we have an auction. Members and guests bring yarns they no longer want, UFOs (unfinished objects), books, magazines, and patters they no longer want. Anything goes as long as it is knitting or crocheting related. Any person in attendance can participate. A great time is had by all with much bantering and laughter. |

Afghan |
An afghan pattern is selected, always with unique squares of 8 inches or 12 inches on a side. Members knit one or two squares and return them to the afghan coordinator. The squares are assembled and border is attached. The afghan is displayed for all to see. Members then sell raffle tickets to friends, family, co-workers, etc. At the Christmas party a ticket stub is drawn and the winning person receives the afghan. |
